Private jets and charters bound for cottage country land at Muskoka Airport (YQA) in Gravenhurst, about 80 km and 50–60 minutes from downtown Barrie. BarrieLimo.net meets them with a black car: $340–390 one way for a business sedan from Barrie as a planning range, all-in plus HST with tolls included, or one chauffeur by the hour for the whole weekend. Give us the tail number and arrival time when you book.
Private jet Muskoka: a car for the last 50 kilometres
Book a car for your Muskoka Airport arrival on BarrieLimo.net, put the tail number and the handler in the notes, and the reservation engine shows the fixed fare before you confirm. Muskoka is where private aviation and the cottage meet: owners, families, guests and crews fly in on a Friday and want to be at the dock by dinner, with the groceries, the golf clubs and the dog. This page is written for them and for the flight departments behind them. It covers what the district's own airport pages say, how the 48-hour handling request affects the car, how the road from the runway to the lake actually behaves, and how one chauffeur can stay with you from landing to Sunday. Our airport transfer page for Muskoka Airport takes the airline-passenger angle; this one is for the aircraft.
Muskoka Airport FBO and handling: what the airport says about itself
These facts come from the District Municipality of Muskoka's own pages, read on 2 October 2026: the airport services page and the About YQA page. Confirm anything operational directly with the airport before relying on it.
- Address: 1011 Airport Road, Gravenhurst, Ontario.
- Ownership: the District Municipality of Muskoka owns the airport, and the About page says it is operated by Muskoka Airport Incorporated, a municipal service corporation.
- Runway: one asphalt runway, 18/36, listed at 1,829 by 45.7 metres (6,000 by 150 feet), with a pavement rating that supports a maximum take-off weight of 90,720 kilograms, and an 800-foot displaced threshold on Runway 18.
- Fuel: World Fuel Services is named as the fuel dealer, with Jet A-1 and Avgas 100LL stored in two 50,000-litre tanks and a mobile refuelling truck for over-wing and single-point fuelling.
- Terminal: a pilot's lounge open around the clock, a customer service counter, a large passenger waiting and viewing area, a conference room and a car rental agency.
- Traffic: about 15,000 aircraft movements a year, with more than 70 per cent in the summer tourism season.
We are a ground-transportation service. We drive to the airport and have no official role there.
Handling requests and your car booking
The airport's services page says that every aircraft needing FBO services must submit a handling request before arrival, a minimum of 48 hours before the estimated time of arrival. That request is made by the operator or the crew, not by us, and it is the right moment to book the car too: once the handling request is in, you know the handler and the time, which are the two details our dispatcher needs. A booking made earlier than that is fine, and the notes can be updated. A booking made later than 48 hours before arrival may be a sign that the handling request is late, so check with your operator.

Who flies a private jet into Muskoka Airport
A Muskoka Airport private jet arrival can mean many things, and the traffic mix is broader than the word "cottage" suggests. In the busy summer months the ramp sees owners flying their own aircraft, charters carrying families and guests, corporate flights bringing executives for a weekend and crews who stay overnight. With more than 70 per cent of movements in summer, winter is the quiet season. For us the common thread is the same as at any FBO: passengers step off an aircraft without a car, usually with more luggage than a car boot expects, and need a ride that is waiting rather than one they have to summon. A rental agency in the terminal and taxis in the district are real options for some trips; what a pre-booked car adds is a tracked pickup, room for the party and a fixed fare.
Customs and international private arrivals
The airport's services page says the Canada Border Services Agency handles clearance by arrangement, that flights with no more than 15 people on board need at least two hours' notice, and that service is available seven days a week from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in both summer and winter. The operator or pilot makes that call, not the car company. For members of the CANPASS programmes the CBSA's CANPASS page explains the rules, and the CBSA site covers what must be declared.
For the car it means one thing: nobody leaves the aircraft area until the officer releases it. Included waiting runs from actual landing, so a customs queue does not run the clock on you: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on all other international arrivals, then 15-minute blocks.
Where the car waits at Muskoka Airport
At a small airport the handover is quick. We confirm the meeting point with you before you land: the terminal building, the FBO door or another position the handler prefers. The chauffeur messages the colour of the car, the plate and the exact spot. Whether a vehicle can go to the ramp is for the airport and the handler to say. Meet and greet with a name board is an optional extra on the booking form, with the price shown before you confirm.

From the runway to the dock: how cottage roads behave
The drive from Gravenhurst to a lake cottage is rarely a single highway. It is Highway 11 for a few minutes, then a regional road, then a municipal road and, at the end, a private lane with gravel, a steep drive and a gate. GPS gets the first three right and the last one wrong more often than you would think. Tell us the cottage address, the gate code if there is one, and who will be at the other end, and the chauffeur drives it in daylight order with a phone number to call. Where a dock is accessible only by water, the car goes to the marina or the road end, and the boat takes over from there; check with your host or the marina on who meets you.
Cottage weekends: Friday in, Sunday out
From Victoria Day to Thanksgiving the road between Toronto, Barrie and Muskoka clogs northbound on Friday afternoon and southbound on Sunday afternoon, worst on long weekends. A jet that lands at Gravenhurst skips it. For the ride home, a Sunday evening departure to the airport is much easier than a Sunday afternoon drive to Toronto. Our cottage weekends and family arrivals page and the cottage country car service page describe how a full weekend is planned, and the blog article on cottage opening and closing transfers explains the spring and fall runs.
Hourly chauffeur: the whole weekend in one car
An airport run is a one-way job; a Muskoka weekend is not. After landing there is the grocery stop in town, the first dinner across the lake and a pickup for guests who arrived by car. That is where the hourly private chauffeur beats separate transfers: one car and one chauffeur on a 3-hour minimum, waiting at every stop. Planning ranges, all-in plus HST: business sedan $135–160 per hour, business SUV $175–205, executive SUV $225–265, first-class sedan $350–410, Sprinter $475–550, Jet Sprinter $650–750. A 4-hour sedan booking is $540–640. See the private chauffeur page for how an as-directed day works.
Choosing the vehicle for the lake
- Business sedan: three passengers, three bags; right for a couple with carry-ons.
- Business SUV: five and five, with four-wheel drive for gravel lanes and early-season mud.
- Luxury minivan: six passengers, sliding doors, space for a stroller and a week of luggage.
- Executive SUV: six and six, for golf bags, paddleboards in their cases and a lot of groceries.
- First-class sedan: for the principal who wants the S-Class and 7 Series class.
- Sprinter: up to 14 for a wedding party or a family reunion.
- Jet Sprinter: a VIP lounge Sprinter for up to seven passengers and five bags.
Child seats are available from $25 each, added at booking. Pets need our prior approval: request it at booking and wait for written confirmation. Service animals are welcome; mention them when you book. A wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available if you book in advance and tell us about the wheelchair or scooter.
Crews and overnights
Crews who nightstop in Muskoka want a hotel run and a car back at an early hour. Book both legs on one reservation and the same dispatcher owns them. For where guests and crews stay, our Muskoka resorts page describes the main resort areas and how the car reaches them.
Beyond the dock: Bracebridge, Huntsville and Algonquin
A chauffeur who has met a jet at Gravenhurst can take you on to Bracebridge and Santa's Village, Huntsville or, further north on Highway 60, Algonquin Provincial Park. The Muskoka attractions page describes what is in each town, and Discover Muskoka is the regional tourism site for events and seasonal information. In summer the steamships at Muskoka Wharf in Gravenhurst are a short drive from the airport; the steamships' website is the place to check sailings.
Winter and shoulder seasons
Muskoka is snowbelt country, and the airport's traffic drops in winter, but private flights still come for ski weekends and for families who stay at the lake. Our fleet runs on winter tires from November, the chauffeur checks Ontario 511 before leaving, and the departure time is planned with a buffer. The run from Gravenhurst down Highway 11 and the 400 to Barrie or Pearson is the one that squalls can slow without warning; our Highway 400 winter travel guide explains how.
Muskoka Airport or Lake Simcoe Regional Airport?
Both serve private aircraft, and both are closer to Barrie than Pearson. Lake Simcoe Regional Airport is 18 km from downtown Barrie; Muskoka Airport is 80 km, but it is already in the lakes. If your destination is a Muskoka cottage, YQA saves the longest part of the drive. If you are going to Barrie, Orillia or Horseshoe Valley, the airport at Oro-Medonte is closer. Our Lake Simcoe Regional Airport private-aviation page covers that side, and the Pearson private-aviation page covers Toronto.
Booking direct and cancelling
You book on BarrieLimo.net's own reservation engine: no app, no aggregator commission, and one dispatch desk handles the arrival and the departure. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before the scheduled pickup; 72 hours or less is 10 %, 48 hours or less is 50 %, and 24 hours or less or a no-show is charged in full. No alcohol is allowed in our vehicles, so the first drink waits for the dock. Flights, hotels and packages around the trip can go through our Travel Desk; it is not a charter desk.
BarrieLimo.net is a ground-transportation company. We do not sell or operate flights and we have no affiliation with Muskoka Airport, the District Municipality of Muskoka, any handler or any charter operator.
