Lake Simcoe Regional Airport (YLK) is the airport closest to Barrie: about 18 km north-east of downtown, 20–25 minutes off Highway 11 in Oro-Medonte. It serves business, charter and private aviation, and its website advertises no scheduled airline service, so most airline passengers still fly from Pearson. BarrieLimo.net drives to YLK for $160–185 in a business sedan, all-in plus HST, tolls included.
Lake Simcoe Regional Airport: does Barrie have an airport?
Book a car to Lake Simcoe Regional Airport directly on BarrieLimo.net, or read on to see whether YLK is the airport you need. Does Barrie have an airport? Yes, in a limited sense. People who search for "Barrie airport" or "Barrie Ontario airport" are usually asking whether they can fly from the city, and the honest answer is that Barrie's nearest airport, Lake Simcoe Regional Airport (YLK), is a business and general aviation airport, not an airline hub. It lies in the Township of Oro-Medonte, between Barrie and Orillia. If you are flying on an airline from Barrie, your airport is almost certainly Toronto Pearson, which we cover on the Pearson airport page.
If you are arriving or departing on a charter, a private jet or a corporate flight, then YLK is the airport you want, and BarrieLimo.net is the ground transport at the other end. Give the flight details when you book and the engine fixes the fare.

How far is Lake Simcoe Regional Airport from Barrie?
About 18 km from downtown Barrie, 20 to 25 minutes in normal conditions, via Highway 11. It is the shortest airport run on our list by a wide margin, and it is the only one that stays inside Simcoe County. The drive passes through the northern edge of Barrie and on to the Oro-Medonte side of the county, an area that is mostly rural with a few small settlements.
In winter the margin matters more than the kilometres. Roads in Oro-Medonte are in the snowbelt, and a squall can slow a short drive as much as a long one. We plan pickups with a buffer, particularly for charter departures where the aircraft does not wait for latecomers. The Lake Simcoe Regional Airport guide goes into the detail.
Are there commercial flights from Lake Simcoe Regional Airport?
Not as far as the airport's own website shows. Its pages cover FBO services, customs and pilot information, and the County of Simcoe's economic development material describes plans for scheduled service as a future phase rather than a current service. If you hear of a scheduled flight, confirm it directly with the airline and the airport before you plan a trip around it. We cannot confirm or deny a service we do not operate.
For an airline flight, the nearest working options are Pearson, at $380–440 for a business sedan, and Billy Bishop, at $445–510. YLK is the right airport for a charter, a private jet, a corporate shuttle or a medical or cargo flight arranged through an operator.
Barrie airport code YLK: who flies in, and who handles them on the ground
The airport's website names two FBOs: Chartright and AVFuel. The Chartright location page describes its services at the airport. We are independent of both, and the information here is only so you know what to expect when you arrive. FBOs handle the aircraft, passengers and baggage at the airport; we handle the road. For the private-aviation side, our Lake Simcoe Regional Airport private aviation page covers the arrangements, and our blog article on private jet transfers at YLK explains how a typical trip is planned.
Where the car meets you at YLK
For passenger pickups, we agree the meeting point with you before you land. Depending on how you are travelling, that might be the main terminal building or the FBO you have booked with. Where the airport and the FBO permit, we can arrange the car at the FBO door; where they do not, the chauffeur waits at the nearest permitted position and messages you the car's colour, plate and exact spot. Tell us at booking which FBO or operator you are using so the dispatcher can plan it.
You can add a meet and greet with a name board on the booking form. It is optional, and the engine shows the price before you confirm.

Waiting time and flight tracking at YLK
We track every airport pickup against the flight you give us. For a charter or private flight, give the flight number or the operator's details at booking, and tell us how flexible the departure time is. Included waiting follows the same rules as our other airport pickups, and runs from actual landing:
- 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights
- 60 minutes on all other international arrivals
- then 15-minute blocks, listed on the receipt
Private flights can move more than airline flights do, in both directions. That is a reason to book the car with the operator's schedule in mind and to message the dispatcher with any change.
Customs and international arrivals at YLK
The airport has commercial port-of-entry status with the Canada Border Services Agency, and its FBO page states that prior notice is required. For arrivals from abroad, customs happens at the airport before you meet the car, and the time it takes depends on the aircraft, the passengers and the day. That is why international arrivals have the longer, 60-minute allowance.
For rules on declaring goods, travel documents and who must report, the Canada Border Services Agency is the authority, and your FBO or operator can tell you how clearance is arranged for your flight. Chauffeurs with NEXUS can be requested for border trips, which is a different matter and covered on our crossing the border guide.
From the apron to your door: how a YLK arrival works
- At booking: give the flight details, the FBO or operator, the destination and the passenger and bag count.
- Before landing: the dispatcher tracks the flight and positions the chauffeur.
- On landing: you clear customs if needed, then meet the chauffeur at the agreed spot.
- On the road: the chauffeur loads the bags and drives you to Barrie, or on to Orillia, Horseshoe Valley, Muskoka or beyond; check Ontario 511 for conditions on the day.
- At the door: the fare was fixed at booking, gratuity included.
Departing from YLK: timing the pickup
For departures, we collect you at your address and take you to the airport at the time you and your operator agree. For a charter, the aircraft's departure time is usually set by the operator, so ask them what time they want you at the airport, and then work back. We plan the drive at the slow end of the 20–25 minute range, with more in winter.
If you are connecting to an airline flight at Pearson, the arithmetic changes: YLK to Pearson is a longer trip, which the engine prices for your date, and the Pearson airport page covers what happens on arrival.
The route: Highway 11 and Oro-Medonte
From downtown Barrie, the route is north on Highway 11 and east to the airport through Oro-Medonte. It is a short, mostly rural drive. In winter, the chauffeur checks the conditions before leaving and picks the road that is moving. Our Highway 400 winter travel guide describes how snowbelt squalls behave, and the same logic applies on Highway 11.
For other places in the township, such as Horseshoe Valley, the Oro-Medonte page has its own fares and times, and the Horseshoe Valley resorts page covers cars to the resorts.
Lake Simcoe Regional Airport between Barrie and Orillia: ski season and the road north
Charter and private arrivals often continue to a ski hill, a resort or a cottage. From YLK, the area's ski hills are a short drive by Simcoe County standards: Horseshoe Resort and Hardwood Ski and Bike lie in Oro-Medonte, and Mount St. Louis Moonstone is near Coldwater. Orillia and Casino Rama are along the same road, and Muskoka is a longer trip north. The engine prices each from the airport on the date you choose.
Corporate and group arrivals
If a team lands together, whether for a site visit, a board meeting, a film shoot or a delegation, the vehicle can be matched to the group. A Sprinter seats up to 14, and the Jet Sprinter is a VIP lounge vehicle for up to seven passengers with room to work. Our corporate car service page and the roadshows and site visits page describe how a multi-stop programme is planned.
Choosing a vehicle for YLK
- Business sedan: 3 passengers, 3 bags; the default.
- First-class sedan: for executives and VIP guests.
- Business SUV: 5 and 5, with four-wheel drive.
- Executive SUV: 6 and 6, for luggage-heavy groups.
- Jet Sprinter: 7 passengers and 5 bags in lounge seating.
Hourly chauffeur from YLK
The hourly private chauffeur suits a YLK arrival better than almost anything else, because the day rarely ends at the airport. You land, the car and chauffeur stay with you from a 3-hour minimum, and the day proceeds: a meeting in Barrie, a site visit in Springwater, a lunch in Orillia, a call at Georgian College, a hospital visit at RVH or a dinner back at the airport. Planning rates are $135–160 an hour for a business sedan and $225–265 for an executive SUV. A four-hour sedan booking is $540–640. See hourly compared with point-to-point and the hourly chauffeur service.
Taxi, rideshare or a booked car at a small airport
For a short trip like this, a taxi or rideshare is a real alternative, and for some travellers, the cheaper one. At a small airport, though, you cannot count on a car being available at short notice or at awkward hours, and a driver who is not tracking your flight may not be there when the aircraft lands early. A booked car is already assigned, tied to your flight and fixed in price. Our flat-rate airport taxi alternative explains the comparison.
Barrie hotels and the waterfront
If you are staying in Barrie, our Barrie hotels page covers cars to the downtown and waterfront hotels. Our travel desk can arrange flights, hotels and packages through BookingWorldwide.net alongside the car. For a longer stay, the first-time visitor's guide to Barrie describes what to do between rides.
Booking, cancellation and what the fare includes
Booking is direct on the reservation engine. The fixed fare includes the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, tolls on the planned route, airport fees and gratuity; HST is shown separately. Cancellation is measured from scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours before, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10 %; 48 hours or less, 50 %; 24 hours or less or no-show, 100 %. Child seats, meet and greet, pets and wheelchair vehicles are set on the booking form, and alcohol is not allowed in our vehicles.
