Lake Simcoe Regional Airport flights are charter, corporate, private and training flights; the airport does not list regular scheduled airline routes. For an airline seat, Toronto Pearson is about 97 km and 60–85 minutes from Barrie. For a jet or charter at the airport, a car from downtown Barrie is $160–185. Read our Lake Simcoe Regional Airport private aviation page.
Are there Lake Simcoe Regional Airport flights you can book?
Not as an airline ticket, on what the airport says today. Its website invites visitors to enquire about chartered flights, lists charter operators among its tenants and describes the field as able to accommodate narrow-body airliners including the Boeing 737-800. Its about page describes a three-phase plan in which the third phase supports scheduled commercial air service, and it does not describe any scheduled service as operating now.
In other words, the runway can take larger aircraft, and the airport is working toward more, but the person who types "lake simcoe regional airport flights" hoping for a fare comparison will not find one. We checked these pages on 2 October 2026; confirm before you rely on them.
Where is the airport, and is it the Barrie airport?
It is in the Township of Oro-Medonte, between Barrie and Orillia, about 18 km and 20–25 minutes from downtown Barrie off Highway 11. Many people call it the Barrie airport, and it serves the whole County of Simcoe, which owns it according to its own about page. There is no airline terminal in the Pearson sense; it is a general-aviation and business airport with a passenger waiting area.
A business sedan between downtown Barrie and the airport is a planning $160–185 one way, all-in plus HST with tolls, fuel and gratuity inside. Our airport transfer page and the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport guide carry the road detail.
What kinds of aircraft use the airport?
According to the airport, users range from small recreational and flight-training aircraft to larger corporate, regional and commercial aircraft. Tenants named on its pages include a flight school and the FBO operators: Chartright, which describes jet management, maintenance and a hangar that accommodates aircraft up to a Global 7500, and AVFuel, which works from the main terminal building.
That tells you the traffic: business jets bringing executives to Simcoe County, charter flights, flight students and private owners. It is not a place with a departures board. If you are visiting, the airport lists an on-site restaurant, Off Eleven Pizza, on its FBO and pilot information page; check opening hours before you go.
How do you fly out of the airport as a charter passenger?
You book the flight with an operator or charter broker, not with us. BarrieLimo.net does not sell or broker flights. Once you have a flight, ask the operator two things: what time to be at the airport and where to report, the FBO or the terminal building. Then book the car to that door.
Our fare covers the car at the pickup position agreed in advance; the airport and the handler control access to the ramp, and we do not decide it. Give us the tail number, the operator and the handler in the booking notes. For a departure, the chauffeur arrives early at your address, and the fixed fare is shown before you confirm.

If you need an airline seat, where should you fly from?
| Airport | Distance and time from downtown Barrie | Business sedan, one way | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 97 km, 60–85 min | $380–440 | Most airlines and international routes |
| Billy Bishop (YTZ) | 115 km, 80–110 min | $445–510 | Short-haul flights from the downtown island airport |
| Hamilton (YHM) | 175 km, 110–140 min | $620–715 | When your airline flies from there |
| Buffalo (BUF) | 265 km, 2.75–3.5 h plus border | $885–1,020 | Fares from the United States |
Planning figures, all-in plus HST. Pearson is the answer for most travellers. Our post on Hamilton airport flights from Barrie explains when the longer drive pays off. Flights, hotels and packages can be searched through the travel desk, which works with BookingWorldwide.net.
When is Pearson the right airport even for a private jet?
When the passenger is connecting onward, meeting in Toronto or flying a heavy long-range aircraft. A jet that lands at Pearson serves Toronto meetings directly, and the drive to Barrie is 97 km. A jet that lands at Lake Simcoe Regional serves Barrie, Orillia, Horseshoe and southern Muskoka and saves most of the drive.
Our Pearson private aviation page covers that side. Whichever airport you pick, the booking engine and the dispatch desk are the same, and a change of airport on the day is a phone call, not a new booking.
What does the airport say about customs?
According to the airport's FBO page, the field has commercial port-of-entry status with Canada Border Services Agency service. Regular hours are listed as weekdays, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. local, for up to 24 passengers, with extended weekday hours and weekend and holiday cover for up to 15 passengers, and 24-hour access for CANPASS holders. Hours and notice requirements are the airport's to confirm.
The CANPASS program page explains who qualifies, and the Canada Border Services Agency covers the rules for arrivals. The operator arranges customs; we do not. For the car it means one thing: nobody leaves until the officer releases the aircraft.
What does a charter arrival look like on the ground?
A sample for an international charter landing at midday, to be replaced by your operator's plan:
- 11:30 The chauffeur is positioned at the agreed pickup point, in touch with the handler.
- 12:00 Block-in; the aircraft is directed to the apron.
- 12:10 Customs formalities, handled by the operator and the FBO.
- 12:50 Passengers released; bags moved to the car.
- 13:00 Departure for Barrie, Orillia or Horseshoe.
Waiting is counted from actual landing: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on other international arrivals, then 15-minute blocks. Private flights shift, so the dispatcher watches the aircraft and the chauffeur is placed before block-in.
Where do most arrivals go next?
North-east along Highway 11 toward the resorts and the lakes, or south to Barrie. Planning figures one way from downtown Barrie, business sedan: Horseshoe Valley $180–205 (25 km, 20–30 min), Orillia $215–245 (38 km, 30–35 min), Casino Rama $230–265 (47 km, 35–45 min), Blue Mountain Village $300–345 (66 km, 60–70 min) and Gravenhurst $310–355 (70 km, 45–55 min).
The airport sits on the same corridor, so from the airport several of these are shorter than the figures suggest; the engine prices from the actual pickup. A chauffeur who has met a jet can take you straight to the lodge, leave the bags and keep the car for dinner, as an hourly chauffeur does.
What does the day-trip pattern look like?
Many arrivals are not transfers but day trips: land at 10, meetings in Barrie, a lunch in Orillia, a plant visit in Alliston and wheels-up at 4. The car and the chauffeur stay with the principal from the ramp to the last stop, with a three-hour minimum and extra time in 30-minute blocks.
Hourly planning ranges, all-in plus HST: business sedan $135–160, business SUV $175–205, executive SUV $225–265, first-class sedan $350–410. A four-hour business sedan day is $540–640. The Jet Sprinter, a VIP lounge Sprinter for seven, is $650–750 per hour with the same minimum.
Which vehicle suits a jet arrival?
- Business sedan: one or two passengers, three bags.
- First-class sedan: a principal or VIP guest.
- Business SUV: five seats, four-wheel drive for winter.
- Executive SUV: six seats and six bags, for golf clubs, skis and flight cases.
- Sprinter: up to fourteen for a delegation or a full cabin.
- Jet Sprinter: seven lounge seats and work tables.
Private cabins carry bags that airline holds reject. Tell us what is coming and the vehicle matches the cargo; if the party fills a sedan's seats, the bags need an SUV.

What about pilots and crews?
Pilots and cabin crew need cars too, usually at awkward hours: from the ramp to a hotel after a late landing, back again before dawn, or to a restaurant on a layover day. Put every leg on one booking and a single dispatcher follows the whole sequence.
Give the arrival and departure times, the number of crew and the amount of baggage, including flight cases. Hotels from Barrie's waterfront to Horseshoe Valley are listed on our Barrie hotels page. For crews and passengers, alcohol is not allowed in the vehicles.
How does winter affect flights and the drive?
Oro-Medonte is in lake-effect country, and from November to March a squall can cut visibility on Highway 11 for a few kilometres and then clear. The airport's FBO page describes de-icing with Type I and Type IV fluids, available around the clock with notice; whether and when an aircraft is de-iced is for the crew and the FBO.
Our fleet runs on winter tires from November, and the chauffeur checks Ontario 511 before leaving. For a departing passenger, we collect early enough that a slow road does not cost the slot. Our Highway 400 winter travel guide explains how squalls change the timing.
How do you compare the airport with Pearson on cost and time?
| Question | Lake Simcoe Regional (YLK) | Toronto Pearson (YYZ) |
|---|---|---|
| Distance to downtown Barrie | about 18 km, 20–25 min | about 97 km, 60–85 min |
| Business sedan to Barrie | $160–185 | $380–440 |
| Scheduled airline flights | none listed by the airport | most major airlines |
| Best for | Charter and private arrivals to Barrie, Orillia, Horseshoe | Airline travel, onward connections, Toronto meetings |
The saving on the car is real, but it is the aircraft that decides the airport. Choose the airport that fits the flight, then book the car to match.
Who owns the airport, and who decides what flies?
According to its about page, the airport is wholly owned by the County of Simcoe and overseen by a board of seven, and it describes a catchment of the county's municipalities plus Barrie and Orillia. Decisions about scheduled service, new tenants and hours belong to that board and the operators, not to a car company.
That is worth knowing if you hear a rumour about airline service starting. Wait for an announcement from the airport or the County, and treat anything else as speculation. We will not guess; when the airport lists a scheduled route, this page will say so.
How do you book the car for a Lake Simcoe Regional Airport flight?
Open the booking page, enter the airport as the pickup or destination, the date and time, and put the tail number, the operator and the handler in the notes. A fixed all-in fare appears before you confirm, with HST shown separately. No app and no aggregator commission.
Cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup: free beyond 72 hours, 10 % at 72 hours or less, 50 % at 48 hours or less and 100 % inside 24 hours or on a no-show. We are not affiliated with the airport, the County of Simcoe or any operator; we are the car.
BarrieLimo.net is a ground-transportation company. We do not operate or sell flights, and the airport and the handler control access to the ramp.
