The Barrie Film Festival 2026 edition, BFF29, runs October 17 to 25 at Galaxy Cinemas, 72 Commerce Park Drive. If you live nearby and want one film, drive or take transit. A chauffeur suits a full film day, older guests, late nights and visitors: a sedan within Barrie is $110–125 one way, or hourly from $135–160. See our Barrie Film Festival limo page.
What is the Barrie Film Festival 2026, and when does it run?
The festival's own page for its annual festival lists BFF29, the 29th edition, for October 17 to 25, 2026, with a curated selection of films from around the world and a particular emphasis on Canadian creators. The same page points to October 7 for the line-up announcement, so at the time of writing, on 2 October, the full programme was still to come.
That timing is the practical lesson of this guide: you will probably buy tickets and book transport in the same week. We do not sell tickets or run the festival, and we have no official role. Our parent film festival page covers the service; this guide is about the awkward part, the hours between films.
Where are the screenings held?
The festival's page names Galaxy Cinemas, 72 Commerce Park Drive, at the south end of Barrie, as the venue. Its year-round Screen One Series is held at the same cinema. Read the programme once it is published, because other venues can appear for special events, and tell dispatch the venue name and address when you book.
If you are visiting from out of town, note that this is not a downtown venue. Barrie South GO is also at the south end of the city; check the distance on a map before you plan a train-and-walk journey. A chauffeur can collect you from either GO station or from a downtown hotel and take you to the door.
Do you need a chauffeur for a cinema at all?
Often no, and we would rather say so. If you live in Barrie, you are going to one film, you are comfortable driving at night and the weather is clear, taking your own car is the cheapest answer. Barrie Transit and taxis are fair choices for a single quiet screening.
A chauffeur earns its fee in four situations: you are attending several films in a day and want to eat between them; an older guest does not like driving after dark; you are visiting and have no car; or you are attending with friends and splitting a vehicle. The rest of this guide is for those four cases. For the broader pitch, our hourly chauffeur service page explains how one car stays with you.
What does a ride to Galaxy Cinemas cost?
These are planning figures for a business sedan, one way, to or from downtown Barrie, per vehicle, all-in plus HST with tolls included. The cinema is within Barrie, so most local rides fall in the first row. The reservation engine quotes your exact address, date and vehicle before you confirm.
| From | Distance to downtown Barrie | Drive time | Sedan one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anywhere within Barrie | up to 10 km | 5–20 min | $110–125 |
| Springwater / Midhurst | 9 km | 10–15 min | $130–150 |
| Innisfil | 15 km | 15–25 min | $150–170 |
| Angus / CFB Borden | 20 km | 20–30 min | $165–190 |
| Orillia | 38 km | 30–35 min | $215–245 |
| Newmarket / Aurora | 60 km | 40–55 min | $280–320 |
| Toronto Pearson (YYZ) | about 97 km | 60–85 min | $380–440 |
Within Barrie a business SUV has a local minimum of $180–205 and an executive SUV $260–300. See rates for every class.

What does a Screen One ticket mean for your plans?
The Screen One Series is monthly: the festival's page lists September 9, October 7 at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., with November 4 and December 2 still to be announced. It says tickets are $12, seating is general admission and first come, and the box office opens an hour before showtime, with online sales carrying service fees.
A $12 film and a $110–125 one-way ride is a lopsided comparison for one person, and we will not pretend otherwise. For a pair of older guests who want the 4 p.m. showing and a quiet supper, or for a group splitting a car, the ride is the point. Book it as an hourly outing and the cost per person stays reasonable.
What does a three-film Saturday look like?
The festival programme will decide the real times, so treat this as a template for a film-lover's day. Pick up at 10:30, first film at 11, a coffee and a walk during the gap, a second film in the early afternoon, a proper meal at around four, a third film at seven and home by ten.
An hourly chauffeur is the natural fit: the car and chauffeur stay with you, the clock runs only while you want it to, and there is no parking to find each time. A business sedan is $135–160 per hour with a three-hour minimum. The chauffeur can wait outside, take you to a restaurant between films or collect you from a hotel. Our hourly versus point-to-point guide shows how to compare it with separate rides.
How does late-October darkness change the evening?
By the time a 7 p.m. screening ends it is long dark, often wet, and the first cold of the season has arrived. The snowbelt season on Highway 400 usually begins in November, but a rainy October night is no fun to drive in after two hours in a warm seat.
Our chauffeurs check Ontario 511 before every trip and add time when the roads are poor. For guests driving in from Muskoka or Orillia, a chauffeur avoids the late drive on unlit highways. Our Highway 400 winter travel guide explains how we plan as the season turns.
What suits seniors and matinee audiences?
Daytime showings, such as the 4 p.m. Screen One screening, draw older audiences who like to be home before dark. A car at the door, a chauffeur who carries the bag and waits through the film, and a drop at your own front door is a far gentler outing than a rush-hour drive.
Tell us at booking if anyone uses a wheelchair, scooter or walker: a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available if booked in advance, and the dispatcher confirms availability for your date. The cinema's own accessibility arrangements are for the venue to describe, so contact it directly. Service animals are welcome; pets need prior written approval.
Can filmmakers and visitors from Toronto get here easily?
Festival guests often arrive from out of town. Pearson to downtown Barrie is about 97 km and 60–85 minutes: $380–440 in a business sedan, $490–565 in a business SUV and $580–665 in an executive SUV, with flight tracking included. Union Station is $420–485 in a sedan (114 km, 75–105 minutes). Curbside pickup is included; a name-board meet and greet inside arrivals is an optional add-on on the booking form.
Out-of-town guests can have flights, hotel and ground transport on one file through our travel desk, which works with BookingWorldwide.net. If a producer wants a quiet back seat between calls, an hourly chauffeur does that too.
How do you plan dinner and a film as a pair?
For a couple, the neat structure is a 5:15 pickup, a 5:30 dinner in town, a short drive to the cinema, a 7 p.m. film and a drop at your door. One hourly booking absorbs the moves, nobody hurries dessert and nobody argues about parking while the trailers run.
If you are choosing a restaurant, our first-time visitor's guide to Barrie and our restaurant nights out article list ideas. There is no alcohol on board in any vehicle, so a glass of wine happens at dinner and the chauffeur handles the ride.

What if you come as a film club or a class?
Film clubs, school groups and college classes can book a vehicle sized to the group: a luxury minivan or executive SUV for six, an executive Sprinter for up to 14 at $475–550 per hour with a three-hour minimum. Divide that by the group and the cost per head is modest.
Teachers should check the school board's transport policy first, since we simply supply the vehicle and chauffeur. Child seats are available from $25 each; the film's classification is the cinema's and festival's to describe, not ours. Larger groups can use a partner minicoach, priced in writing by a coordinator.
Can the chauffeur wait through a two-hour feature?
Yes, on an hourly booking. A feature plus an introduction or a conversation afterwards usually runs two to three hours, and the three-hour minimum covers most of that; extra time runs in 30-minute blocks at the same hourly rate. The chauffeur parks nearby and you text when the lights come up.
A one-way booking does not include open-ended waiting, so do not stretch it into a film night. If you only want to be dropped off, book the return separately and set the pickup for the published end time plus a margin; 15 minutes of waiting is included on a standard pickup, then 15-minute blocks.
How early should you arrive for a festival screening?
For the Screen One Series, the box office opens an hour before showtime and seating is general admission, first come, so the people who arrive early choose their seats. If you care about a particular row, or you are bringing someone who needs an aisle seat, plan to arrive 30 to 45 minutes ahead. A chauffeur can drop you at the door while the car goes to park, which saves the walk from a distant space on a wet night.
Festival screenings can be busier than the monthly series, and the programme will say whether seats are reserved. Whatever the rules, tell dispatch your film time and we work backwards: pickup, drive, a margin for the door, a margin for the queue. Late arrivals miss the first minutes; early ones just get a better seat.
Are you buying tickets, passes or just a ride?
Tickets are the festival's business. Its pages direct you to its website, and the pages we read for BFF29 did not list pass types or prices, so we will not guess. Buy tickets first, then book your car around the programme times. The festival's Screen One page lists the monthly series.
If plans change, ours are simple: cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10 per cent at 72 hours or less; 50 per cent at 48 hours or less; 100 per cent at 24 hours or less or a no-show, measured from the scheduled pickup.
How do you book your film day ride direct?
Book on our reservation engine: choose the vehicle, enter your pickup address and either a one-way trip or the number of hours, and the fixed all-in fare appears before you confirm, with HST shown separately. There is no app, no aggregator commission and one dispatch desk for the whole day.
Add child seats from $25 each and notes for dispatch such as the venue name and your film times. For another October night out, our Colts game-day guide covers the arena.
