Kempenfest parking is limited: the festival says nearby spaces are first come, first served, some waterfront lots close, and free shuttles run from off-site lots. For 2026 the City also asked for digital permits for free waterfront parking. Park-and-ride is cheapest. A chauffeur, $110–125 within Barrie, helps with art purchases, strollers and late concerts. See our Kempenfest limo page.
What do the City and the festival say about Kempenfest parking?
The City of Barrie's Kempenfest page says there are parking options downtown and along the waterfront but that some waterfront lots close for the event, that digital waterfront parking permits are needed for free parking at designated waterfront locations, and that a free park-and-ride shuttle serves the weekend. It points to a Kempenfest parking map on the City's site.
The festival's visitor FAQ is blunter: nearby parking is limited and first come, first served, and free off-site parking is provided at the shuttle pickup locations. We are not the festival and have no role in it. This guide turns those facts into a plan, using the 2026 edition as the template because the 2027 dates were not yet posted.
When does Kempenfest run, and what hours matter for parking?
The 2026 festival ran from Friday, July 31 to Monday, August 3, over the Civic Holiday weekend. The City lists the event as Friday from 5 p.m. to Monday at 6 p.m. The festival's FAQ says vendors operate Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and that Friday has only midway rides and concerts, with the art exhibits closed.
For parking, that means Friday evening is the easiest time to find a space and Saturday late morning is the hardest. If you can only go once, Monday morning may be calmer than Saturday afternoon. The festival's own site will post the 2027 dates; until it does, we will not guess them.
Where are the free park-and-ride lots?
The festival's shuttle page lists the pickup locations: Park Place Transit Hub, near 149 Live Eight Way; the H-Block parking lot at 50 Worsley Street; the Barrie Allandale Transit Terminal at 20 Essa Road; and stops along Lakeshore Drive and downtown Bayfield Street. The service is free and was presented in 2026 by BIG 101 FM, funded by the City.
Hours on the shuttle page were Friday from 4:40 p.m. to 10:50 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 9:10 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. and Monday from 9:10 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Real-time tracking and schedules are on MyRideBarrie. Free transit passes were also available for the weekend through printed copies, the HotSpot app or pickup at the Allandale terminal, and one pass covered a group travelling together.
Do you need a digital waterfront parking permit?
For the 2026 festival the City said digital permits were needed for free parking at designated waterfront locations. We do not know whether the same system will apply in 2027, and the City, not us, sets the rules each year. If you plan to park near the water, read the City page and the parking map in the days before the festival, get any permit you need in advance and keep it on your phone.
A permit is a reason to plan, not a reason to panic. If it sounds like too much paperwork for a family outing, the shuttle and the chauffeur both remove it. A chauffeur's job is to drop you and drive away; the parking question is ours, not yours.
What about road closures around the waterfront?
This is the part we cannot give you as a list. The pages we read for 2026 described lot closures, the Tiffin Boat Launch closure and the shuttle, but did not publish a street-by-street closure list. We will not invent one. Check the City's page and the festival's map close to the date, and look at Ontario 511 for anything affecting the highways.
What we can say is how the chauffeur works with closures: dispatch reads the City's notices before the weekend, the chauffeur picks a drop-off on the open side of any closure and the plan is confirmed with you by text. If a street is closed on the day, the pickup moves a block or two, which is why you should share a mobile number and stay reachable.
Where can a chauffeur drop you off?
The City and the festival do not publish designated drop-off points for private cars, so the point is agreed on the day. In practice that means a place that is safe, legal, close to the gates and out of the main crush of pedestrians. Choose a landmark you can describe in one sentence, such as a street corner or a nearby shuttle stop, and screenshot it.
Ask the chauffeur to confirm the spot by text 15 minutes before pickup. On the way out, walk a block away from the busiest exit before you call for the car: the five minutes you save by being on a quieter street are worth more than the five minutes you save by standing at the gate.
How much is a chauffeur for Kempenfest?
These are planning figures for a business sedan, one way, to or from downtown Barrie and the waterfront, per vehicle, all-in plus HST with tolls included. The reservation engine quotes your exact address, date and vehicle before you confirm.
| From | Distance to downtown Barrie | Drive time | Sedan one way |
|---|---|---|---|
| Anywhere within Barrie | up to 10 km | 5–20 min | $110–125 |
| Springwater / Midhurst | 9 km | 10–15 min | $130–150 |
| Innisfil | 15 km | 15–25 min | $150–170 |
| Angus / CFB Borden | 20 km | 20–30 min | $165–190 |
| Orillia | 38 km | 30–35 min | $215–245 |
| Bradford | 40 km | 30–40 min | $225–260 |
Within Barrie a business SUV has a local minimum of $180–205, an executive SUV $260–300, a first-class sedan $360–415 and a Sprinter $480–550. For a whole day, an hourly business sedan is $135–160 with a three-hour minimum. See rates.
Is GO Transit a good way to reach Kempenfest?
For visitors from Toronto or Bradford, yes. GO Transit's Kempenfest page says the closest station is Allandale Waterfront GO, a short walk along the waterfront to the festival at Kempenfelt Bay, and lists e-tickets, a one-day weekend pass and PRESTO payment. It notes that children 12 and under ride free.
We do not quote GO times or fares; check GO Transit. If you take GO in and want a private ride out after the evening concert, tell us, and the chauffeur can meet you near the station. Our Allandale Waterfront GO page covers the station and how cars work around it.
How should three generations with a stroller plan the day?
Picture grandparents, two parents, a toddler and a pram. Walking in from a distant lot in July heat is the part nobody enjoys. A business SUV or executive SUV has step-in height for older passengers, space for a folded pram and room for child seats, which are available on request from $25 each when you book.
Ask for a drop-off close to the gates and an agreed pickup, and book hourly if you want the car to wait. The City lists Kids Village and family programming as part of the festival, so a short visit and a long rest in an air-conditioned car is a perfectly good plan. Keep an eye on the heat: bring water.
What about buying art, antiques and large pieces?
The festival's own FAQ describes arts, crafts and antiques with no entry fee, and the City says there are nearly 300 exhibitors. That means one thing for transport: you will probably buy something awkward. A business SUV has a far more useful rear bay than a sedan, and an executive SUV more again.
Tell dispatch at booking that you expect to buy a framed piece or a bulky item and we send the right vehicle. The chauffeur can meet you at an agreed spot once you have your purchase and help load it. For a collector's day, an hourly booking lets the car wait while you walk the tents and return with your purchases.
Do evening concerts change the plan?
The festival's FAQ says evening concerts and some Main Stage shows need tickets, and that bags and shoulder bags are searched before entering concert venues. The shuttle's published hours ended at 10:50 p.m. on the days listed, so if a concert runs later, a pre-booked car is the safer way home.
Tell dispatch the concert's published end time when you book and the chauffeur sets the pickup for then plus a margin. There is no alcohol on board in any of our vehicles, so a drink at the festival and a ride home is the safe structure. Nobody has to decide who drives home after the headliner.
What about mobility and accessible parking?
The City says the upper section of the Tiffin Boat Launch remains open for accessible parking by permit only, and the festival's FAQ describes multiple accessible spots at the waterfront. If you hold a permit, use those spaces. If you do not drive, a wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available if you book in advance and tell us about the wheelchair or scooter.
We do not quote a model or ramp specification; the dispatcher confirms what is assigned for your date. Ask the City or festival about drop-off arrangements for permit holders. Service animals are welcome; mention them at booking. The festival says pets are not recommended, since city bylaws keep dogs off beaches, grass areas near vendors and concert venues.
How bad is Civic Holiday traffic on Highway 400?
Kempenfest sits on the Civic Holiday weekend, the busiest cottage-country weekend of the summer. Highway 400 and Highway 11 northbound clog on the Friday afternoon, and southbound traffic is worst on long weekends, building on the Sunday and Monday afternoons. If you are driving to Barrie from Toronto, leave early or late and check Ontario 511 before setting out.
A chauffeur does not avoid traffic, but dispatch can pick the departure time and the route with it in mind. For guests flying in, the Barrie to Pearson run is $380–440 in a business sedan (about 97 km, 60–85 minutes). Rooms downtown are best booked early; our Barrie hotels page explains how cars collect guests, and our travel desk can arrange flights and rooms together.

How do you book Kempenfest transport direct?
Book on our reservation engine: choose the vehicle, enter your pickup address, and pick a one-way trip or the number of hours. The fixed all-in fare appears before you confirm, with HST shown separately. There is no app, no aggregator commission and one dispatch desk. A one-way pickup includes 15 minutes of waiting and then 15-minute blocks; hourly bookings run in 30-minute blocks.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 10 per cent at 72 hours or less; 50 per cent at 48 hours or less; 100 per cent at 24 hours or less or a no-show. For another waterfront summer day, see our dragon boat festival transport guide.
