Wineries near Barrie start in the city itself, at Heritage Estate on Penetanguishene Road, and stretch west to Creemore, Clarksburg and the Georgian Bay shore. Visiting more than one is a long day, so someone has to drive. Hire a chauffeur by the hour, from $135–160 for a sedan with a three-hour minimum, or drive yourself with a sober driver. See our wine and brewery tour page.
Which wineries near Barrie are worth a chauffeured day?
Tourism Barrie's listing for Heritage Estate puts the winery at 421 Penetanguishene Road in Barrie, with wine tasting, vineyard views and event hosting. Further afield, Destination Ontario's article on wine and cider along the southern shores of Georgian Bay names Georgian Hills Vineyards at Clarksburg, Creemore Hills Winery at Creemore and Coffin Ridge Boutique Winery at Annan. Bruce Grey Simcoe's beverage page lists those wineries and The Roost Winery and Vineyard, and also names cideries including Thornbury Village Cider House and Brewery and Duntroon Cyder House.
We are not affiliated with any of them and we sell no tastings. We drive you there, wait and bring you home. Our parent page on wine and brewery tours explains the service; this guide is a planning aid for the wine half of it.
What do the winery pages actually tell you?
Not as much as you would like, which is a useful warning. Destination Ontario says Georgian Hills offers five wines and ciders per tasting and calls it one of the original vineyards of the region. It describes Creemore Hills as a low-intervention winery with a contemporary tasting room, and Coffin Ridge as a small-batch producer on the Niagara Escarpment with views of Georgian Bay and a rotating Vintner's Plate.
The Creemore Hills website offers reservations through a booking page, which is a hint that you should not simply turn up. The Roost's site did not load usable detail when we checked, so we cannot describe its hours. Opening hours, tasting fees and group limits change, so check each winery directly before locking the day.
What does a winery day cost with a chauffeur?
Wine routes are long, which is why we suggest hourly booking. These are planning figures, all-in plus HST with tolls and gratuity included, and the reservation engine quotes your exact address and date before you confirm. One-way figures are for a business sedan from downtown Barrie to the nearest zone in our table, not to the winery door.
| Winery area | Nearest planning zone | One way, business sedan | Hourly day option (3 h minimum) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heritage Estate, Barrie | Within Barrie (up to 10 km, 5–20 min) | $110–125 | $135–160 sedan |
| Creemore | priced to your address by the engine | quoted by the engine | $175–205 business SUV |
| Clarksburg (Georgian Hills) | The Blue Mountains / Thornbury (80 km, 65–80 min) | $340–390 | $225–265 executive SUV |
| Collingwood lunch stop | Collingwood (57 km, 50–60 min) | $275–315 | $135–160 sedan |
| Annan (Coffin Ridge), near Owen Sound | Owen Sound (125 km, 100–115 min) | $475–545 | $225–265 executive SUV |
The zones are the closest our table has, so treat the Creemore, Clarksburg and Annan rows as guides rather than quotes. See rates for every class.

Why hourly beats one-way for a winery day
A winery visit is slow: a seated flight, a conversation about the vintage and a view you want to linger over. Add the distance between cellar doors and a lunch stop and it is easy to find yourself with a six or eight hour day. One-way fares to each stop would add up quickly and each would need a separately timed pickup.
An hourly booking keeps one car and one chauffeur with you. The clock covers the driving and the waiting, extra time runs in 30-minute blocks and nobody negotiates a return ride from a country road with no signal. Our hourly versus point-to-point guide shows the arithmetic for your plan.
What does a half-day look like inside Barrie?
For a short afternoon, start with lunch downtown, then head to Heritage Estate for a tasting and finish with dinner or a taproom stop. Because the winery is inside Barrie, a business sedan is $110–125 one way, so for a single stop two one-way trips can be cheaper than a three-hour hourly booking. For two or more stops, hourly wins.
If you want to pair grape and grain, our Barrie breweries guide describes a taproom route that fits the same afternoon. Remember that tasting rooms differ on reservations: some are first come, first served, while others prefer a booking, so ask each one.
How does a Creemore, Clarksburg and Collingwood day work?
A full day west of Barrie could start at a Creemore tasting by reservation, continue to lunch in Collingwood (57 km and 50–60 minutes from Barrie), and finish at Clarksburg for a flight at Georgian Hills before the drive home. Clarksburg sits within The Blue Mountains, in the Thornbury band of our table: 80 km and 65–80 minutes from downtown Barrie.
An eight to ten hour hourly booking in an executive SUV or business SUV suits this. Allow generous time between stops, since country roads are slower than they look, and tell dispatch when your reservations are. Our Collingwood guide covers the town and the way there.
What about cider houses on the same route?
Apple country begins west of Barrie, and the cider houses are worth knowing about. The Bruce Grey Simcoe page lists nine cideries, among them Thornbury Village Cider House and Brewery, Duntroon Cyder House, Ardiel Cider House and Heritage Estate itself, and describes cider made in whole or in part from locally grown or heritage apples.
Cider tastings tend to be quicker and more casual than a seated wine flight, so a cider house makes a good fourth stop on a long day, or a lighter alternative for a group where not everyone loves wine. As always, check each venue's own site for hours and group rules, and tell the chauffeur where you are headed so the pickup times line up.
What does a winery day timetable look like?
Every route is different, but a template helps you decide how many stops are realistic. For a nine-hour booking in an executive SUV, pick up in Barrie at 9:30, reach a first reservation at about 11, break for a long lunch around 12:30, make a second tasting by mid-afternoon, add a cider house or a shop stop around 4:30 and be home by about 6:30.
Treat those times as a sketch, not a promise: tasting rooms run late, lunch takes longer than planned and country roads slow down behind farm traffic. The point of the hourly booking is that the plan can flex. Two serious tastings and a good lunch is a better day than four rushed stops, and the chauffeur can drop one if the afternoon runs away.
Is the Georgian Bay shore worth the long drive?
Coffin Ridge, at Annan near Owen Sound, is the furthest stop on this list and the most scenic, with views over Georgian Bay, according to Destination Ontario. Owen Sound is $475–545 one way from Barrie in a sedan (125 km, 100–115 minutes), so it is a day of its own rather than a stop on a route.
If you want it, book a ten-hour hourly day, plan one tasting and a long lunch and treat the drive as part of the outing. Ask us about a second chauffeur on a very long day. Alternatively, choose a closer cluster and save the escarpment for another time.
When is the best season to visit?
Late spring to early autumn is the classic window: patios open, long daylight and, in September and October, harvest. Autumn colours make the drive itself a pleasure; our fall colours drive guide covers the scenic side.
Winter tastings are quieter and some small producers keep shorter hours, so check before you travel. Snowbelt squalls can close Highway 26 and Highway 400 with little warning from November to March; dispatch watches Ontario 511 and may move a pickup earlier. Cottage traffic clogs northbound routes on Friday afternoons and southbound on Sundays from Victoria Day to Thanksgiving, so a Saturday or a weekday is easier.
Who is a winery day for?
Anniversaries and milestone birthdays are the most common reasons, followed by mothers' and fathers' day outings, friends' reunions and client appreciation days for companies. A couple can use a business sedan; four couples want an executive SUV, a luxury minivan or a Sprinter.
For corporate hosts, our corporate accounts desk can invoice the day, and a first-class sedan or executive SUV makes a good impression on clients. For a bachelor or bachelorette day, see our occasions page. Wedding planners can use a winery day for a welcome-party outing as well.
How big a vehicle should you book?
A business sedan carries three, a business SUV five, an executive SUV or luxury minivan six, and the executive Sprinter up to 14. On a wine day, remember purchases: a case of wine is heavier than it looks and several cases fill a sedan's trunk.
Tell dispatch what you expect to buy and we suggest the vehicle. A business SUV or executive SUV has more useful cargo space. Larger parties can use a partner minicoach, priced in writing by a coordinator, though some small tasting rooms cannot seat very large groups at once.
What about bottles and the no-alcohol rule?
Alcohol is not allowed in our vehicles, which means nothing is opened or poured on board, from a sedan to a Sprinter. Sealed purchases can ride in the cargo area if you arrange it with dispatch at booking. A winery tasting is a different matter, because it takes place inside the licensed venue, and you can enjoy it fully because someone else is driving.
If you want to carry bottles home, tell dispatch at booking so we choose the right car. Tasting groups should also remember the rule of the road: never drive after drinking. Ontario's impaired driving page sets out the penalties, even for the warn range, and a chauffeur removes the question altogether.
What are the age, ID and group rules?
The legal drinking age in Ontario is 19, and tasting rooms ask for photo ID. Younger guests may ride along and eat but not taste. The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario sets the rules for licensed premises, and VQA Ontario describes the province's appellation system if you want to understand the labels.
Large groups should tell each winery in advance, since seating is limited, and reservations are often required. If anyone uses a wheelchair or scooter, book a wheelchair-accessible vehicle in advance and tell us about it. Pets need prior approval, with written confirmation; service animals are welcome.
How do you book your winery day direct?
Book on our reservation engine: choose the vehicle, enter your Barrie pickup address and the number of hours, and the fixed all-in fare appears before you confirm, with HST shown separately. Add child seats from $25 each if you need them and note your reservations and venues for dispatch.
Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; 72 hours or less is 10 per cent, 48 hours or less 50 per cent, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100 per cent. If you want to combine a wine weekend with flights or a hotel in Collingwood, our travel desk can arrange them on one file.
