Things to do in Collingwood include the harbour and Sunset Point, the museum, Hurontario Street, the 34 km Georgian Trail and, nearby, Scenic Caves and Blue Mountain Village. Collingwood is about 57 km and 50–60 minutes from Barrie. Driving yourself works; a Collingwood limo from Barrie is $275–315 one way for a business sedan, and an hourly chauffeur suits a day of stops.
What are the best things to do in Collingwood in a single day?
A day in Collingwood has a natural rhythm: a morning on the escarpment or the trail, a long lunch in the town and an afternoon at the water, with the Blue Mountain area close by if you want more. None of it needs a long drive from Barrie, which is why Collingwood is one of the most popular day trips from Simcoe County for a family, a pair of friends or visitors who have not seen Georgian Bay.
This post is a planning guide rather than a brochure. Opening hours, events and prices change, so each stop below links to its official source; use those pages for the details and treat us as the part of the day that gets you there and home.
How far is Collingwood from Barrie, and what does a car cost?
Collingwood is about 57 km from downtown Barrie, 50–60 minutes in ordinary conditions. Blue Mountain Village is a little further. These are planning ranges one way, all-in plus HST: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, tolls on the planned route and gratuity. The reservation engine prices your exact address and shows one fixed fare.
| Destination and vehicle | Distance | Drive time | Planning fare (one way) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Collingwood, business sedan | about 57 km | 50–60 min | $275–315 |
| Blue Mountain Village, business sedan | about 66 km | 60–70 min | $300–345 |
| Blue Mountain Village, business SUV | about 66 km | 60–70 min | $400–460 |
| Blue Mountain Village, executive SUV | about 66 km | 60–70 min | $480–550 |
| Blue Mountain Village, Sprinter | about 66 km | 65–80 min | $1,190–1,370 |
Larger vehicles to Collingwood itself are quoted by the engine. The fare is per vehicle, so a group of five in an SUV shares it.
What is worth seeing downtown, on Hurontario Street and at the museum?
Downtown Collingwood is built around Hurontario Street, which runs from the town centre toward the shore of Georgian Bay and sits in a heritage conservation district of Victorian and Edwardian buildings. It is a walking street, and a long lunch there is the heart of the day for many visitors.
The Collingwood Museum, at 45 St. Paul Street, is run by the Town. Its museum page lists hours of Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., admission by donation with a suggested $5, and exhibitions that include the town's shipbuilding heritage and photographs of Great Lakes vessels. Hours can change, so check the page for your date, and note that it is closed on Sundays and Mondays at the time of writing.
Where do you watch the sunset, at the harbour or Sunset Point Park?
Sunset Point Park is on the Georgian Bay shore in Collingwood, a municipal park with waterfront trails, a beach and shoreline access, a large playground and picnic areas. It is where families end a day, and the name earns itself in the evening. The Town of Collingwood's official site lists parks and facilities.
Time it with the chauffeur. If you want the light at its best, tell us at booking and set the pickup for about an hour later, which also means a return drive in the dusk and not in the dark. In winter, dusk comes early, and the drive back is a daytime job unless you plan for the evening.

Is the Georgian Trail worth walking or riding?
The Georgian Trail is a 34 km multi-use trail linking Collingwood and Meaford through the Town of The Blue Mountains, passing Blue Mountain Village, Clarksburg and Thornbury. About 21 km separates Collingwood and Thornbury and about 13 km separates Thornbury and Meaford, which makes it easy to choose a section.
A one-way walk or ride with a car at each end is the classic use of a chauffeur: you start at Collingwood harbour, finish in Thornbury and the car is waiting. If you are carrying bicycles, tell us at booking so a coordinator can confirm what the vehicle can carry; we do not claim a rack or a bike capacity. Explore Blue is a tourism resource for the Blue Mountains side of the trail.
What can you do at Scenic Caves Nature Adventures?
Scenic Caves, in The Blue Mountains just beyond Collingwood, is a hiking park on the escarpment. Its official site lists caves and caverns, a suspension bridge, hiking trails over 370 acres, and Rocky the Train on weekends and holidays, and says it is open daily including holidays, with hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on weekends and holidays at the time of writing. A twin zipline is listed as coming in spring 2027.
It is a good half-day with children, with comfortable shoes, a rain layer and water. Check the site for current admission and seasons, and tell the chauffeur your planned length of stay so the next stop is timed for it.
How do Blue Mountain Village and the spa fit into a Collingwood day?
Blue Mountain Village is about 66 km from Barrie and a few minutes beyond Collingwood, and the Blue Mountain site lists its attractions by season. In summer it is a pedestrian village with shops and restaurants; in winter it is a ski resort. The Scandinave Spa at Blue Mountain is a thermal spa nearby with its own booking requirements, which you should check before you plan a spa day.
A car is useful at the end of a spa afternoon, when you are relaxed and not inclined to drive. Our Blue Mountain day-trip guide covers the village in more detail, and our Blue Mountain Village page the resort side.
What does a half day, a full day and an evening look like?
Three illustrations, not timetables.
- Half day (four hours, sedan): Barrie to Collingwood, a museum stop and a harbour walk, a late lunch on Hurontario Street, and home. A four-hour sedan booking is $540–640.
- Full day: Scenic Caves in the morning, lunch in town, a section of the Georgian Trail in the afternoon and sunset at the park. Eight to ten hours is plausible; the engine prices the day.
- Evening: Dinner in town and a late return. After dark in winter, the snowbelt can slow the road, so leave a margin.
Hourly planning figures are $135–160 for a business sedan, $175–205 for a business SUV and $225–265 for an executive SUV, all-in plus HST, with a 3-hour minimum. Our hourly chauffeur service page explains the clock.
Where do breweries, wineries and tastings fit in?
The area around Collingwood is known for craft drinks, and a chauffeur is the sensible answer to the question of who drives. We do not name venues, because hours and listings change; use the official tourism sources. What we can say is how it works: you taste, the chauffeur drives, and alcohol is not allowed in our vehicles, so any bottles you buy are for later and not for the ride. Our wine and brewery tours page explains the hourly format.
What is the road to Collingwood like, and what about winter?
Highway 26 is the route to Collingwood and Wasaga Beach, and the drive is steady on a quiet weekday. On summer weekends traffic builds toward the beaches and the escarpment, and on winter weekends ski traffic fills the road toward the hill. Barrie is in Ontario's snowbelt, and lake-effect squalls off Georgian Bay can close or slow the roads with little warning from November to March, so check Ontario 511 and Environment Canada before you go.
A business SUV is the sensible vehicle in winter, with four-wheel drive and room for skis. Dispatch watches the road and will propose a pickup time that allows for it.
Is a chauffeur worth it for this trip?
Honestly, it depends. If two of you want a simple day and enjoy driving, your own car is fine and cheaper. Public transport options between Barrie and Collingwood are limited, so check the operators and the county's own information before you rely on them. A chauffeur earns the fare when you are four or more, when you want to taste something, when a parent or grandparent is coming, when the weather is doubtful or when you want to see the whole day and not the road.
Child seats are available from $25 each, added at booking. Pets need prior approval: request it at booking and wait for written confirmation; service animals are welcome. A wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available if you book in advance and tell us about the wheelchair or scooter.

How does Collingwood change with the seasons?
Summer is the harbour, the trail and the beach, with warm evenings that run late; book a pickup that lets you stay for the sunset. Autumn is the escarpment in colour, and our fall colours post shows how to plan around it. Winter is ski country, and the Georgian Trail is also used for cross-country skiing, so the same route that was a walk in July becomes a snow trail. Spring is the quietest season, with fewer crowds and a more relaxed museum and lunch day.
Whatever the season, confirm opening dates for each stop on its own site, because attractions in this part of Ontario often keep seasonal hours.
What about a family of five, a stroller and a dog?
A business SUV takes five passengers and five bags, an executive SUV or luxury minivan six and six, which is the usual answer for a family with a stroller and a cooler. Child seats are from $25 each, added at booking, and we ask for the ages. Sunset Point Park has a playground and the museum is a short, dry stop for tired children.
Dogs need prior approval: request it at booking and wait for written confirmation before you travel, and check each stop's own rules for dogs. Service animals are welcome and should be mentioned when you book.
What should you leave out of a single day?
The temptation is to do everything: Scenic Caves, the whole Georgian Trail, a spa afternoon, a tasting and a sunset. It does not fit. A day with three stops is a good day; a day with six is a car journey with brief interruptions. Choose one outdoor stop, one town stop and one sit-down, and keep the rest for a second visit.
If you really want the full list, split it across two days or book an overnight stay at Blue Mountain or in Collingwood, with a car at each end. The Blue Mountain and Collingwood hotels page lists where we collect and drop off.
How do you change the plan if the weather does?
A wet day swaps the trail for the museum and a long lunch; a hot one favours the shade of the caves and the water. If you need to move the date, cancellation is measured from the scheduled pickup: more than 72 hours before is free, 72 hours or less costs 10 %, 48 hours or less 50 %, and 24 hours or less or a no-show 100 %. Tell dispatch early so the chauffeur's day is not wasted.
How do you book a Collingwood day from Barrie?
Booking is direct on BarrieLimo.net, with no app and no aggregator commission. Open the reservation engine, choose one way or hourly, enter your Barrie address and Collingwood, pick the date, time, passengers and bags and read the fixed fare before you confirm. For weekend stays around Blue Mountain and Collingwood, our travel desk can add hotel nights and tickets to the same plan.
