A MacLaren Art Centre car service from anywhere in Barrie is a business sedan fare of $110–125 one way (up to 10 km, 5–20 minutes), all-in plus HST. From Toronto Pearson it is $380–440 (about 97 km, 60–85 minutes). For a gallery day with lunch and the waterfront, book the hourly chauffeur at $135–160 an hour, three-hour minimum.
MacLaren Art Centre car service: the short version
The MacLaren Art Centre is Barrie's public art gallery, and people looking for an art gallery in Barrie often want more than a route. They want a day that holds together: an exhibition, a coffee, a lunch, maybe a walk along the water. BarrieLimo.net is built for that. You book your Barrie chauffeur directly on our own reservation engine, see a fixed all-in fare before you confirm, and for an art day we usually suggest our hourly chauffeur service: one car and one chauffeur, a three-hour minimum, and the car waits while you look. Visitors from Toronto, Innisfil, Orillia and Muskoka can arrange pickups from home or a hotel, and the car takes you back when the day is done.
Planning fares to the MacLaren Art Centre
These are planning ranges for a business sedan one way to downtown Barrie, all-in with HST shown separately: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, any tolls on the planned route and gratuity. The reservation engine quotes the exact address, date and vehicle before you commit.

What the MacLaren Art Centre is
The MacLaren describes itself as the regional public art gallery serving the residents of Barrie, the County of Simcoe and the surrounding area, with a permanent collection of contemporary Canadian art held in trust for the public. It offers a year-round programme of exhibitions, education activities and special events. The gallery occupies an award-winning building that combines a renovated 1917 Carnegie library with a contemporary addition designed by Siamak Hariri. We list those facts as the gallery states them. For what is on now, read the MacLaren's own site; exhibitions change several times a year, so we do not name current shows.
Address, hours and admission
The MacLaren is at 37 Mulcaster Street in downtown Barrie. As posted on the gallery's admission, hours and location page at the time of writing in October 2026, it is closed on Mondays, open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., open on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and open Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is pay-what-you-can by donation. A café, Palette Cafe and Provisions, is listed as open Tuesday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hours and programmes change, so check before you book a pickup and use the late Thursday opening if you want to see a show after work.
Where the car stops on Mulcaster Street
Mulcaster Street runs through the downtown core, and the gallery fronts on it. As with any downtown address, the practical rule is the closest legal stop. We do not guarantee a spot at the curb outside the front door, because delivery vehicles, events and, on Saturday mornings, market traffic share the street. The dispatcher plans the approach from your address, tells you where the chauffeur will wait, and messages you if anything changes. The MacLaren says public parking is available nearby and links the City's downtown parking map; on the day you arrive in a chauffeured car, none of that is your problem.
Why an hourly chauffeur suits a gallery day
A gallery visit is different from an airport run because nobody knows how long it will take. One person looks at every label, another is done in twenty minutes, and a third wants the café. An hourly booking absorbs all of that. Three hours is the minimum on sedans and SUVs, and extra time is added in 30-minute blocks. A four-hour sedan booking is $540–640 all-in plus HST, which comfortably holds a gallery visit, lunch, a walk on the waterfront and the ride home. A one-way fare gives you a car at the beginning and nothing at the end. The guide on hourly versus point to point sets out when each wins.
A four-hour art day in Barrie
This is a template for a Tuesday-to-Sunday outing. Adjust the times to the gallery's opening hours and to your pace.
- Late morning: pickup at home or hotel; drop at the MacLaren on Mulcaster Street.
- Gallery visit: the chauffeur waits nearby; message when you want the car.
- Lunch: a short hop to a downtown restaurant, or the café at the gallery itself.
- Early afternoon: a drive down to the lakeshore for a walk past the Spirit Catcher sculpture, a public artwork the City lists among its waterfront features since 1987.
- Mid-afternoon: the ride home, or onwards to a nearby town.
For a Saturday, see our page on the Barrie Farmers' Market, which runs on Saturday mornings in the same part of town.

Combining the MacLaren with the farmers' market or the waterfront
The MacLaren and the Barrie Farmers' Market both sit in the downtown core, so a Saturday morning can include both: market stalls from 9 a.m., the gallery from 10 a.m., and lunch before the waterfront. The waterfront page has the lakeshore details. Because a chauffeur can hold your market purchases in the car while you look at art, this combination works especially well in summer and at Christmas, when the bags get heavy. We drive to these places and have no affiliation with any of them; the planning is just what an hour of dispatcher time can do for your day.
Thursday evenings and after-work visits
The late Thursday opening is a good time to see an exhibition with a friend or a client without taking a day off. A business sedan picks you up from the office in Barrie, drops you at the gallery and returns you home or to dinner. For a corporate guest, the corporate car service page and corporate accounts explain invoicing to a company. A first-class sedan at $350–410 an hour is the choice when the car itself should be part of the impression.
Accessibility at the MacLaren and in the car
The MacLaren states that the building is wheelchair accessible and that adjacent parking is available. We have a wheelchair-accessible vehicle available: book it in advance and tell us about the wheelchair or scooter so we can match the vehicle properly. We do not quote a model or ramp specification in advance; the dispatcher confirms what is available for your date. For visitors who walk but tire quickly, the chauffeur's best contribution is the drop-off point, which we choose with you at booking and confirm by message on the day.
Group visits, classes and tours
Art clubs, school classes, seniors' groups and visiting delegations often travel together. A Sprinter seats up to 14 at $475–550 an hour, with a three-hour minimum and a within-Barrie minimum of $480–550, and a luxury minivan or executive SUV takes six. For larger groups, a coordinator can arrange several vehicles and quote in writing. If the group is visiting Georgian College as well as the gallery, see our college and campus visits page, which covers a longer, multi-stop day.

Coming from Toronto, Pearson or Union Station
A growing number of Toronto residents make a day trip to Barrie for a show or a walk by the lake. From Toronto Pearson, the business sedan fare is $380–440 (about 97 km, 60–85 minutes), and a business SUV runs $490–565. From Union Station it is $420–485 (114 km, 75–105 minutes), and from Billy Bishop $445–510 (115 km, 80–110 minutes). Check GO Transit for the train option and its current timetable, and use a car when you have luggage, a group or a late return. We track flights and trains and include 30 minutes of waiting on Canadian domestic and US arrivals. See Barrie to downtown Toronto for the route details.
Spring, summer, autumn and winter visits
The MacLaren is a year-round destination, but the driving changes with the seasons. In summer the waterfront and market add traffic on Saturdays, and cottage-bound traffic fills Highway 400 on Friday afternoons. Autumn is the quietest and clearest time for a day trip. In winter, lake-effect snow squalls can close or slow the 400 with little warning from November to March, so build in extra time, or let us do it. Our vehicles are late-model and detailed before every trip, with winter tires from November to April. See our Highway 400 winter travel guide for how we plan around the snowbelt.
Taxi, ride-hail or private car to the gallery?
If you live a few minutes from Mulcaster Street, a taxi or ride-hail car is a perfectly good way to reach the MacLaren, and the cheapest. A booked chauffeur is a different product: a reserved car and driver for the time you need, a fixed fare you can see before you commit and a pickup that is waiting when you are ready. It costs more than the cheapest option. It pays for itself when you are bringing visitors from out of town, when the day includes several stops, when someone has mobility needs or when the weather is poor.
Rainy days, school holidays and slow weekdays
A gallery is the classic wet-weather plan, and rain is when our cars are busiest, so book early for a showery weekend. Weekday mornings are the quietest times for a visit and the easiest for a chauffeur, with simple drops and short waits. School holidays bring families and children's programmes; the gallery lists its education activities on its own site, and we recommend checking before you plan. If your party includes children, child seats are available from $25 each, requested at booking, and a luxury minivan has sliding doors that make a drop at a busy curbside easier.
First visit to Barrie: a culture day
Visitors to Barrie often ask where to start. The first-time visitor's guide to Barrie sketches the city, and an art-led day is a good first answer: the MacLaren in the morning, lunch downtown, the lakeshore in the afternoon and, if you stay, an evening at Five Points Theatre. One hourly booking covers the first three, and a second covers the evening. The Barrie hotels page covers downtown pickups for guests staying overnight, and the City of Barrie site lists the rest of the city's culture and parks.
Why book direct for the MacLaren
The reservation engine shows a fixed fare before you confirm, with no surge pricing and no meter, and gratuity is included. One dispatch desk plans the day. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup; inside 72 hours it is 10 per cent, inside 48 hours 50 per cent, and inside 24 hours or for a no-show the full fare, measured from your scheduled pickup. If you are planning a longer stay, the travel desk can add flights and a hotel, and the Barrie tourism site lists what else is on. See more places we drive to on our attractions page.
