A Discovery Harbour Penetanguishene limo from downtown Barrie is about 50 km and 40–50 minutes; the planning range for a business sedan is $250–290 one way, all-in plus HST, tolls included. For a daytime tour, a Pumpkinferno evening or a day with a second stop, book an hourly chauffeur ($135–160 an hour, three-hour minimum). The engine shows your exact fixed fare.
Discovery Harbour Penetanguishene limo from Barrie: what you are booking
You can book a chauffeur to Discovery Harbour in a couple of minutes. Discovery Harbour is a reconstructed naval and military base on Penetanguishene Bay, about 50 km from downtown Barrie by road. People go for the tall ships in summer, for school programs, and in October for Pumpkinferno, which turns the site into a lit pumpkin trail after dark. The last of those is the one that makes a chauffeur worth having: an evening event, a night drive back on Highway 93 and 400, and families with tired children.
You book directly on BarrieLimo.net. The reservation engine prices your pickup and vehicle and shows a fixed all-in fare before you confirm: chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, tolls on the planned route and gratuity, with HST separate. We drive to Discovery Harbour and have no affiliation with it; tickets are bought from the site.

What Discovery Harbour is
The site's homepage describes Discovery Harbour as a 30-acre living history site reconstructing a British naval and military base from the 1830s, at 93 Jury Drive, Penetanguishene. It says the origins trace to 1793, when Sir John Graves Simcoe identified the deep-water bay as a good location for a strategic naval base and a transport link from York, now Toronto, to the northwest.
It is operated by Huronia Historical Parks, the same organisation that runs Sainte-Marie among the Hurons and Nancy Island Historic Site. On site are reconstructed 19th-century naval buildings, King's Wharf Theatre, a café, a retail store and four-season overnight cabins.
The tall ships and the buildings
The site's hours page lists two ships, HMS Tecumseth and HMS Bee, along with the preserved hull of the original Tecumseth. It also names the Officer's Quarters, an original building from the 1830s that has been restored.
A visit takes about 1.5 hours, according to the site. That is a comfortable length for a chauffeured half day: an hour and a half on site, a meal in town and the drive back, with the car parked and ready. Families with children find the ships and the costumed programs easier to enjoy when nobody is circling for a car park.
Season and hours
The site says it operates year-round with seasonal programming. Its regular season runs from early May to Labour Day, with the site open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. Some categories enter free with valid identification: Indigenous persons, members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Ontario teachers.
Support persons accompanying visitors with disabilities are admitted free. Dates and hours change, so check the official page before you book a car. We never guess at opening times.
Pumpkinferno in October
Pumpkinferno is the event most people ask about. Discovery Harbour lists it for October 1 to 31, 2026, Wednesdays to Sundays. It describes hand-carved pumpkin displays with two ways to see them: a walk-through, Thursdays to Sundays from 6 p.m., and a drive-through, Wednesdays from 8 p.m. Children under five and season pass holders enter free, and tickets are sold online.
Because the event runs in the evening and starts at 6 or 8 p.m., the return drive is in the dark. A chauffeur turns that into part of the evening: you leave Barrie in the late afternoon, enjoy the trail, and sleep or chat on the way home.

Walk-through or drive-through: which night to choose
The walk-through runs four nights a week and is the version for families who want to wander and take photographs. Weekends are the busiest, so a Thursday is usually quieter. The drive-through is a different experience: you stay in the vehicle and watch the displays from the window.
A chauffeur-driven drive-through is an attractive idea, because everyone in the back can look out without anyone watching the road. We do not assume it is possible for every vehicle, so before you book a larger vehicle such as a Sprinter, ask Discovery Harbour about vehicle size limits for the drive-through. Tell us your choice at booking and we will plan the arrival.
Getting there: Highway 400, Highway 93 and an October evening
The route from Barrie runs north on Highway 400 to Highway 93, then to Penetanguishene. It is about 50 km and 40–50 minutes in normal conditions. In October the roads are mostly clear, but evenings bring fog, rain and early darkness, and deer are active at dusk and dawn on rural roads.
The chauffeur plans a margin before your ticket time. Barrie is in the snowbelt, so by November the same journey can mean squalls off Georgian Bay. Check Ontario 511 before you leave, and see our Highway 400 winter travel guide for how we plan those days.

Penetanguishene: the town around the harbour
Penetanguishene is on Georgian Bay's Penetanguishene Bay, and the town's official site is penetanguishene.ca. Searchers often type just "Penetanguishene", usually looking for the harbour, the town centre or somewhere to eat before an evening event.
Plan dinner before or after your visit and tell the chauffeur where. An hourly booking lets the car wait while you eat, and a meal between the town centre and the harbour is a short move. Our Midland and Penetanguishene page covers local and airport runs.
Discovery Harbour and Sainte-Marie in one day
Both sites share a season pass according to Sainte-Marie's website: unlimited admission to Sainte-Marie, Discovery Harbour and Nancy Island, plus most special events. They are a short drive apart, and a day with both is realistic in the main season.
An hourly chauffeur is the sensible way to do it. The car waits at each site, and the drive between them is covered by the same hourly clock. Our Sainte-Marie among the Hurons page covers the other half of the day.
Ghost tours, workshops and other programs
The site lists ghost tours, séance experiences and blacksmith workshops, as well as school programs and summer day camps. Most of these are scheduled events with their own ticketing, so book the event first and the car second.
Evening programs mean late finishes. With an hourly chauffeur, a program that runs late does not change your ride: the car is there and the extra time runs in 30-minute blocks. With a one-way fare you would have to rebook the pickup.
Hourly chauffeur for an evening out
An evening at Discovery Harbour is a good example of hourly service. The car collects you in Barrie, drops you at the entrance, waits, and brings you home. The booking has a three-hour minimum and extra time in 30-minute blocks. See our hourly chauffeur service page.
A dinner in town before the event adds an hour or two, still on the same booking. Compare the fixed total of an hourly booking against two one-way fares on the engine.
Families, strollers and car seats
Families are the main audience for Pumpkinferno. Child seats are available from $25 each (infant or child, toddler, booster), added at booking. Children under five enter free, according to the event page.
Tell us how many children and what kit you have, so we choose the vehicle: a luxury minivan carries six passengers and six bags, with sliding doors that help with car seats. Pets need prior approval: request at booking and wait for written confirmation. Service animals are welcome.
Groups, school programs and birthdays
Discovery Harbour hosts school programs, day camps and group events. For a family birthday or a staff outing, a Sprinter seats up to 14. See Sprinter and group transportation.
Larger groups and coaches are partner vehicles from vetted operators, priced in writing. Alcohol is not allowed in any of our vehicles, so a group that wants to celebrate does so at the table and rides home sober.
Accessibility
A wheelchair-accessible vehicle is available: book in advance and tell us about the wheelchair or scooter. We do not quote a model or ramp specification. Support persons accompanying visitors with disabilities enter free, according to the site.
Check the site's accessibility information for the terrain on the day, as living history sites often have gravel paths and uneven ground.
Weather, rain and what to wear
Pumpkinferno is an outdoor event in October, which in Simcoe County can mean anything from a mild evening to a wet, cold one. The walk-through is on a trail and the displays are outside, so dress for the weather, bring a rain jacket and wear shoes you do not mind getting muddy. The drive-through keeps you dry in the vehicle.
The advantage of a car with a driver on a wet night is that you walk to the entrance from a drop-off point, not from a distant car park, and you get into a warm vehicle at the end. Tell the chauffeur if anyone in your party has trouble with cold or damp.
How we time the pickup for a late finish
Walk-through tickets start at 6 p.m., and the site tells guests how long to allow for the visit. We plan the evening backwards from your ticket time: the pickup in Barrie is set so that you arrive with a margin, and the return is agreed with you before you go in.
If you booked hourly, you simply message the chauffeur when you are ready to leave. If you booked a one-way drop-off and a one-way pickup, the return time is fixed in advance. Either way, a dispatcher is on call around the clock if plans change.
Choosing the vehicle
| Vehicle | One way, Barrie to Penetanguishene (planning) | Passengers |
|---|---|---|
| Business sedan | $250–290 | 3 |
| Business SUV | $325–375 | 5 |
| Luxury minivan | $375–435 | 6 |
| Executive SUV | $400–465 | 6 |
| First-class sedan | $650–755 | 3 |
| Sprinter | $1,000–1,160 | up to 14 |
All figures are all-in plus HST. The classes are on the fleet page. Stretch limousines and party buses are partner vehicles, priced in writing.
Driving yourself, a taxi or a private car?
Driving yourself costs the least for a full car, and many families do it. The trade is a 50 km return drive in the dark after a long evening. A local taxi suits a short trip in town but cannot promise to wait for you after the event.
A private car has a fixed all-in fare, priced per vehicle, and waits. Our fare is a premium one; what it buys is a driver, a door-to-door ride and a car that is ready when the last pumpkin is seen. Our rates page and Barrie limo price guide explain the pricing.
Booking, what is included and cancellation
Open the reservation engine, enter your Barrie pickup and Discovery Harbour as the destination, choose the vehicle and date and read the fixed fare. It includes the chauffeur, vehicle, fuel, tolls, gratuity and fees; HST is shown separately. Add your ticket time and the party in the booking notes.
Cancellation: more than 72 hours before pickup, no charge; 72 hours or less, 10 per cent; 48 hours or less, 50 per cent; 24 hours or less or a no-show, 100 per cent, measured from the scheduled pickup. Flights and rooms can go through the travel desk.
