A pet friendly taxi is a policy, not a vehicle type, so get permission in writing before the day. With BarrieLimo.net, pets need prior approval: request it at booking and wait for written confirmation. Service animals are welcome; mention them at booking. Our airport limo service in Barrie page explains fares and how booking works.
Is there such a thing as a pet friendly taxi from Barrie to the airport?
There is, but it is a decision each operator makes for itself, and it can change from driver to driver. Some taxi and car companies accept animals in carriers, some accept them only with notice, and some do not accept them at all. The sign on the door and the voice on the phone are not the same thing as a confirmation you can show at the curb.
The safe approach is to ask in advance, in writing, and to treat anything less as a "maybe". That applies to us as much as to anyone: we do not take a pet on an unannounced pickup, and a pickup that was never approved may not be able to go ahead as you planned.
How does pet approval work with BarrieLimo.net?
Pets need prior approval. Request it at booking, in the notes or by messaging dispatch, saying what animal, how big and how it will travel: in a carrier on the seat, in a crate in the luggage area, or on a harness. Then wait for written confirmation before you assume it is arranged. If the confirmation does not arrive, ask again; do not turn up with an animal and hope.
This is a deliberate rule, not a hurdle. A vehicle is a shared, professionally detailed space, and the right car, the right seating position and the right expectations all depend on knowing what is coming. Approval is how a good pet trip starts.
What is the difference between a pet and a service animal?
A service animal is a working animal trained to help a person with a disability, and service animals are welcome in our vehicles. Mention one at booking so dispatch can plan the car and the seat, and so the chauffeur knows before the pickup. It is a simple step that makes the arrival smoother.
A pet is a companion animal travelling for other reasons, a holiday, a move or a visit, and needs the prior approval described above. If you are unsure which category your animal belongs to, say what the animal does and let dispatch advise. Do not guess at the curb.
What should you ask any operator before booking with a pet?
Ask these six questions and get the answers in writing. Is a pet allowed on this booking, and is it confirmed or "if the driver agrees"? Does it need to be in a carrier or crate, and of what size? Is there a surcharge, and what for? What happens if the animal has an accident or sheds heavily? Can I stop for a break? What if the pet is not approved on the day: do I lose the booking?
A vague answer to any question is an answer. A clear, written one is what a pet friendly taxi actually looks like, and it is also what separates a stressful trip from a calm one.
What does your airline need from you?
The airline sets the rules for the animal at the airport, and they differ between carriers. Whether a pet can travel in the cabin or must go in the hold, the size and weight of the carrier, the fee, the number of animals per flight, the notice you must give and the documents the airline wants are all the airline's call. Spaces for pets are limited on any flight, and many airlines require you to reserve at booking.
Read your airline's pet page before you book the car, because it decides the carrier or crate you bring, and that decides the vehicle you need. We link to the carriers' sites rather than quote their rules, which change: Air Canada, WestJet and Porter each publish theirs.
What paperwork might the destination ask for?
Most pets travelling from Canada to another country need an export certificate issued by a licensed veterinarian and, for many destinations, endorsed by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, according to the CFIA's pet export guidance. Requirements are specific to each destination country, and it is the traveller's responsibility to check and comply before leaving. Some countries ask for a microchip, rabies records, parasite treatment, a blood test or an import permit.
The Government of Canada's travel documents for your pets page is a good starting point. Start early: some of these steps take weeks, and a pet cannot board without them. Nothing in a car booking can fix a missing certificate.
Which vehicle suits a carrier, a crate or a large dog?
Choose by the container, not the animal's name. A small dog or cat in a soft carrier travels on the seat or the floor of a business sedan, which takes three passengers and three bags. A hard crate for a medium or large dog needs luggage space, so a business SUV for five passengers and five bags, or an executive SUV or luxury minivan for six and six, is a better fit.
We do not publish crate dimensions for each vehicle, because they vary by model: tell dispatch the crate's size at booking, and they will say which class will take it. Measure the crate before you ask, including the door swing.
| Animal and container | Likely class | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Cat or small dog in a soft carrier | Business sedan | Carrier rides on the seat or floor |
| Medium dog in a crate | Business SUV | Luggage area for the crate |
| Large dog in a large crate | Executive SUV or luxury minivan | More floor and cargo space |
| Several animals or a family with a crate | Executive SUV, minivan or Sprinter | Space for people, bags and containers |
How do you prepare an animal for a 60–85 minute drive?
Exercise the animal before the pickup and give it a toilet break just before you leave. Do not feed a large meal right before the drive. Put a familiar blanket or toy in the carrier, line it with something absorbent and bring a spare, plus water and a bowl. Ask your vet about travel anxiety well before the day; do not experiment with a remedy on the morning of the flight.
The drive on our Barrie to Pearson route is about 97 km from downtown Barrie, 60–85 minutes by Highway 400. That is long enough that a nervous animal will notice. Keep your voice calm, keep the carrier secure and tell the chauffeur if the animal is distressed.

What does the travel day look like for a pet?
Work the day backwards, just as you would for a person, with a few additions.
- The night before: pack documents, the carrier, absorbent liners, water and a bowl; confirm the airline's check-in time for pets.
- Two hours before pickup: a last walk and a light feed or none, as your vet advises.
- Pickup: the chauffeur arrives early and texts. The carrier goes in first, secured, then the bags.
- The drive: a calm, steady 60–85 minutes; the chauffeur keeps the temperature comfortable and drives smoothly.
- The curb: the chauffeur helps with the carrier and bags; you go to the airline's counter for animal check-in.
Allow more time at the airport than you would without the animal. Airlines handle pets at their own pace, and a rushed check-in is a bad start.
What does winter do to a pet's airport run?
Barrie's snowbelt winters add two concerns. The road: lake-effect squalls can slow or close Highway 400 with little warning from November to March, so bring the pickup forward by 30 to 45 minutes on a squall day and tell dispatch. The cold: do not leave an animal in an unheated car or on a curb, and keep the carrier out of the wind between the door and the car.
Check Ontario 511 before you leave, and read our winter airport transfers post for the planning. A warm, flight-tracked car waiting for a late arrival is kinder to an animal than a long line at a cold curb.
What does a pet airport run cost from Barrie?
The fare is per vehicle, so a pet does not change it; the class does, because the vehicle has to suit the carrier or crate. These are planning ranges, one way, all-in with tolls and gratuity, HST shown separately.
| Trip | Vehicle | Planning range | Distance and drive time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Within Barrie, for a vet visit or a short transfer | Business sedan | $110–125 | up to 10 km, 5–20 min |
| Barrie to Pearson | Business sedan | $380–440 | about 97 km, 60–85 min |
| Barrie to Pearson | Business SUV | $490–565 | about 97 km, 60–85 min |
| Barrie to Pearson | Executive SUV | $580–665 | about 97 km, 60–85 min |
Is a taxi, shuttle or GO train better with a pet?
It depends on the animal and the operator. A shared shuttle sells seats and shares the van with strangers, so ask whether animals are accepted and how. The GO train and UP Express have their own rules about animals, which we do not state; check GO Transit and UP Express before you plan on them. A metered taxi may or may not agree on the day.
A booked, approved car is door to door, with the animal's carrier beside you and nobody else in the vehicle. For a nervous pet, that is the calm option.
What happens when you land with a pet?
If your animal travelled in the cabin, you come out with it in the carrier, and it is a short walk to the pickup. If it travelled in the hold, the airline tells you where and when to collect it, and that is not always the baggage carousel, so ask the airline. Tell dispatch what to expect, because collecting an animal can take longer than collecting a bag.
Every Pearson pickup is flight-tracked, so the chauffeur follows your actual landing. Included waiting counts from landing: 30 minutes on Canadian domestic and US flights, 60 minutes on other international arrivals, then 15-minute blocks. Curbside pickup is what the fare includes; meet and greet inside arrivals is an optional add-on chosen on the booking form.

Can a pet ride in a stretch limousine, party bus or coach?
Check with the booking desk. Stretch limousines, party buses and coaches are partner vehicles from vetted operators in the LimousineWorldwide.Directory network, and their pet policies can differ from ours. Ask for approval in writing for that vehicle, and do not assume ours carries over.
For an airport run the choice is almost always one of our own sedans, SUVs or vans. If your group is large, a Sprinter takes up to 14 and can carry crates; ask dispatch about approval for the specific booking.
How do you book a pet-approved airport car direct?
Use the reservation engine: pickup, destination, date, time and vehicle, with the animal, carrier or crate size and any service-animal note in the booking. Message dispatch for pet approval and wait for the written confirmation before you travel. There is no app and no aggregator commission. Cancellation is free more than 72 hours before pickup.
If you are travelling with children as well, see our family airport transfers post. Flights and pet-friendly hotels not settled yet? Ask the travel desk, which works with BookingWorldwide.net. When your plans are ready, book your airport car.
